How to read a recruiting standard
Programs name their tiers differently. A target mark describes the athlete a staff hopes to land, a scholarship or recruitment mark is where it starts considering aid, and a walk-on or roster mark is the slowest time it will take onto the team. Each program page explains that program's own labels.
Most sheets ask for FAT, wind-legal marks, and several set a deadline. Yale wants its marks by the end of junior year, Clemson and Michigan call theirs junior-year targets, Columbia sets July 1 before senior year and Princeton the start of senior year.
Hitting a mark gets you a conversation with the staff, and they will still weigh your grades, their event needs and how your times are trending. Start it with the program's questionnaire and a short email to your event coach.
If you don't know where your time sits yet, rate your 100m, 200m or 400m or read the speed guides.
