Track time converter

Convert a time from one event to another three ways: the equivalent performance on the World Athletics scoring tables, the NCAA's official conversion factors, or a straight same-pace conversion between yards and meters.

How each conversion works

The equivalent-performance mode relies on the World Athletics Scoring Tables of Athletics, where equal points in different events mean equivalent performances. The converter scores your mark with the 2025 tables (see the World Athletics points calculator for the method) and finds the mark in the other event with the same score. It also handles short-track (200m oval) events. Example: a men's 6.60 60m is worth the same as a 10.16 100m, and a 21.00 indoor 200m equals a 20.56 outdoor 200m.

The NCAA publishes fixed multipliers for converting marks into its championship events, and the calculator applies them as written:

converted time = time in seconds × factor, last digit rounded up
FromToFactor
55m (men)60m1.0749
55m (women)60m1.0771
55m hurdles (men)60m hurdles1.0766
55m hurdles (women)60m hurdles1.0755
Mile1500m0.9259
1500mMile1.08
4×110 yard relay4×100m relay0.9942
Mile relay (4×440y)4×400m relay0.9942
Distance medley relay (yards)Distance medley relay (metric)0.9942

A 6.30 men's 55m converts to 6.78 for the 60m, and a 4:05.00 mile converts to 3:46.85 for the 1500m. The 1500m-to-mile factor (1.08) is the one the NCAA uses in its own worked example.

The same-pace mode is plain arithmetic. One yard is exactly 0.9144 m, so 100 yards is 91.44 m, and converting at the same average speed scales the time by the ratio of the distances: 9.80 for 100 yards becomes 10.72 for 100m. Your speed changes over a race, so treat the result as a rough guide. The NCAA's own yard-relay factor, 0.9942, is exactly this ratio (400 m ÷ 440 yards).
